The Buzzcocks - Singles Going Steady
Cheeky - Choke on a Cheeseburger EP

Also watched a bit of the last Saints preseason game and the new Real World - New Orleans (as well as the 14 Underarmor commercials one is made to endure by watching anything on MTV's website).

Moss Icon "Hate In Me" EP
White Boss / Son Skull live

I thought both bands were pretty good. Son Skull played basic and at times nearly inept punk that had the exact right execution. Strong female vocals, but I'm not too sure what to compare them too. As for White Boss, I have read reviews that noted an early Gravity records vibe and I think that is there, but I kept thinking they sounded like an aggressive Moss Icon. When I got home I listened to the first Moss Icon EP and I think the comparison is fair. just keep in mind they are more pissed / punk sounding in execution of their weirdo hardcore punk mess. The only downside of the night was Rite Aid not having Budweiser tall cans so I had to go for Corona Extra which is fine. But I really like my Budweiser. Bryan, see what you can do about this.

Giants / Dodgers series this weekend, Giants need to close the gap between Philly and the Padres. Get to work, boys.

It has been a while since I watched any of the MTV programming (which I was pretty hooked to). Good to see that even on their website they still abuse their viewers with two to three times the advertising of other outlets.

THE TEMPLARS - some demo, possibly bootleg lp
SPARROW HAWK live

Candice told me this was a new "hardcore" band from Robin (IXNAY). Now I know for sure that Candice has no idea what hardcore is. The band was ok. Super sloppy, screamy, art punk.

I wanted to stick around for the Olympia bands, but they took soooo long to set up. It was like watching Terry from Thou setting up his drum set in slow motion. Who cares if you're sharing gear if it takes you 10 times as long to set up? Where were you when we played the Northern and that guy turned off the 80s mix to play Tragedy (which I made fun of) then played Earth?

I got home just in time to catch the new episode of Jersey Shore and then Jersey Shore after hours.

The best thing about the long set up times for the Olympia bands is that a large portion of the set up time was devoted to the crappy drum set which had no hardware for the cymbals which promptly fell off two minutes into Son Skull's set.

I think the dude from Freaks and Geeks could have set up his drum set in less time.

I just watched/listened to this video (in 3 parts) End of a Year made with their advice to bands, a major piece of which was to not take so long to set up. It was pretty entertaining.
