Yesterday's News - Issue Sixty Five

As was foretold in yesterday's Yesterday's News, I listened to the new Superchunk album about a hundred (more like 6 or 7) times. It's still here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129480411 I'm really enjoying it. It's definitely reminiscent of the poppiness of their first few albums, but decidedly "adult-sounding" (I personally miss the sloppy "harmony" Laura added, which seems to either be mostly missing or too deep in the mix to really matter). But I do think I'll be shelling out the nearly $20 for this, and the No Pocky for Kitty and Superchunk remasters soon enough...and is Majesty Shredding not an amazing album name? I think so.

Also, while I burned the midnight oil making website mockups:

Dead Swans "Sleepwalkers" mp3s
DMX various mp3s
Eat Skull "Dead Families" mp3s
Giants v. Diamondbacks

I was in jury duty most of the day yesterday and then trying to make up hours at work. Did some ipod listening.

I'll listen to that Superchunck stream pretty soon. I doubt I'll buy it, but just because it has been so long since I bought one of their full lengths and I don't want to send myself into a fill in the gap frenzy with my record collection. That never seems to end well.

Padres v. Giants is starting up. BATTLE FOR THE NL WEST!

Fortunately (for me, anyway) there was a 6 or so year span of time where Superchunk exclusively made music that I really didn't like very much. They've still managed to get plenty of my money in recent years, though, and it does look like it's going to keep happening.

I'm curious, though, am I just really stingy and used to punk rock prices or is almost $20 kind of steep for a new LP?

$20 is pretty absurd. I understand not wanting to lose money, illegal downloading, and this is the best way to grab money when you can with limited run vinyl at a higher price, etc. But neither Sub Pop nor Matador charge that much for new LPs.

LEFT FOR DEAD - Splitting Heads
BORN AGAINST - The Rebel Sound of Shit and Failure

Two classics. I still love hardcore. I still hate the world.
